## General Notes
- Capital letters END words as opposed to starting them.
- Words go right to left.
- But numbers go left to right. Three hundred fifty is still 350
- Worth considering that place values are right-to-left anyway, so all that is kinda consistent
- It’s the other languages that messed up (?)
## Letters
-
Sitting family of letters
- B(ب), P(پ), T(ت), S(ث), Y(ی), N(ن)
-
Vowels
- (آ)‘a’ as in the American ‘a’ sound - tick on the top
- (ِِِِِِِِِاِ)‘e’ as in ‘eh’ - tick at the bottom
- (اُ)‘o’ as in the ‘oh!’ - the round comma like thing on top
- a bit like the hindi ‘oh’ matra
-
‘au’ sound - a stick (ا).
- Just for this one, there is a unique capital STARTING letter. Looks like a fancy T with curvy top
- the straight line with matras are used when a word starts with a vowel (kinda like hindi)
-
Beak Family of Letters
- Ch(چ), J(ج), Kh(خ), H(ح)
- kh from the epiglotis
-
Socks Family of Letters
- Z(ز), R(ر), Zh(ژ)
- Zhe like the french sound
- V(و), D(د), Z(ذ) (“wallet” like letters)
-
Persian Family of Letters
- K(ک), G(گ), M(م), F(ف), Gh(ق)
- ‘Gh’ sound is deep from the throat. Kind of a gagging sound?
-
The three ‘h’ siblings
- There’s one for beginning of words
- one for middle of the word
- Two for end of words depending on whether the preceding letter can join this one
-
Letters that repurpose themselves as vowels
- Letter for ‘y’ becomes the matra for ‘eee’ if the preceding letter has no matra
- Letter for ‘v’ becomes matra for ‘ooo’
- Letter for ‘h’ becomes matra for ‘eh’ - but this happens only in the end of words
