March 1938 - Dhahran - US found oil in Saudi Arabia
- 30s and 40s - Americans moved to the middle east to build oil-based cities
- Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO)
1953
- Coup in R:iran
  - Overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, strengthening rule of the Shah, i.e., Mohammad Reza Pahlavi
  - Operation Ajax (US) / Operation Boot (UK)
1979
- Revolution in R:iran
  - Pahlavi was overthrown and Ayatollah Khomeini became the new leader of the Islamic Republic
1980
- R:iraq invades R:iran
1990
- Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait
- Dick Cheney flies into Saudi Arabia to fight Iraq in Kuwait AKA the Gulf War
