honey-isolated
Honey is a song by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
-
Whole thing is on Ableton Live
-
Drums - bad recording
- Use kick and an overhead mic. Run them both through a TASCAM tape machine
- Used kick and snare samples to beef the sound up
-
Acoustic guitar - used iPhones!
- iPhone distortion - probably comes from the mic being designed to get the audio to cut through noise
- A fair bit of mid-gain and compression as well?
-
Bass goes throuhg DI with some distortion
-
Second bass - different bass guitar towards the end
-
AKG DGN99E mic for vocals
-
Usually lots of layers of saturation instead of compression
-
Harmonies? Copy the vocals and pitch up - usually a good way to WRITE harmonies
- Tape distortion
- Cut a lot of low frequencies
- Pass through tape machine
- Boost the same low frequencies
This way the low end is less distorted, which preserves the punch in the track. The highs are nicely distorted, giving the effect you want
