It’s a type of a R:ship.

• Highly maneouvrable sailing ship designed by the Portugese in the 15th century to explore the west African coast

• The have lateen sails (mounted at an angle, allowing direction control), allowing them to sail into the wind. It does so with the technique of R:beating-sailing, a method of moving into the wind in a zig-zag way.
